Grace Hall @ Crying Over Copy

I’m Grace Hall: Freelance Copywriter & Content Writer, Salfordian, cocktail maniac and documentary-binger.
I’ve enjoyed writing since I was young – I’ll run if numbers or maths are mentioned – and it’s an enjoyment that carried me towards freelancing in the first place.
Yep, I’m another one of those damn graduates who didn’t go into the industry they studied in (Psychology with Counselling and Psychotherapy).
But the insurmountable debt and endless PowerPoints weren’t completely useless, because my degree helped me understand people…
And that’s the secret weapon to any great copy or content.
I’m no mind-reader, but…
(I was once described by a client as ‘simply telepathic’, though, if that counts?)
I know from experience that when it comes to copy and content, my clients are often struggling with:
A lack of time and inclination (who could blame them?) to write their own copy
Difficulty integrating copy as part of their wider marketing strategy efforts
Being stuck with a tone of voice that involves a lot of words that speak to no one
That’s what I’m here for!
Copy doesn’t have to be mind-numbing, time-consuming or soul-destroying.
It should be effective, consistent, and engaging to read – why don’t we get started?
What do you do?
Great question!
I work with business owners and key decision makers to give them the words to define not only what they do, but why people should care.
(I also work with agencies to provide copy and content in line with broader marketing support that their clients love – ChatGPT most certainly not included.)
It’s not that you don’t know what makes your business great. On the contrary, you’ll often have a pretty solid idea of why people love your services or products… but how do you put that into words that drive actions or provide solutions?
Great copy helps provide customers and clients with a reason to invest in you.
Bad copy gives them a reason to never engage with your business again, no matter how much they’d benefit from what you’re offering.
What do you know?
Bad experience with a writer that churned out content that made your eyes bleed? Or maybe you’re just naturally mistrusting (fair).
In any case, here are a handful of the industries/sectors/general areas I’ve written for.
Mental health & wellbeing
Thought leadership, blog content, branding PDFs
Risk management

Psst…
If you want to know me, you should also know I LOVE my two pets, Kevin (cat) and Eric (drooly dog).
I also love a takeaway (as pictured) but unsure whether that’s something we can bond over – you tell me.
Bottom right image inspired by ‘Creation of Adam’, but instead it’s… just Kevin trying to eat soup. The picture of Eric requires no explanation in my mind.
